Judy Weipert served as our director 1982-1983. In 1983 Jane Ford served as director until 1999.
Judy Weipert served as director again starting in 1999 to the present time.
The chorus has consistently won medals through the years 1988 - 2019 winning a total of:
First Place Small Chorus - 24 Times
Second Place Overall - 6 Times
Third Place Overall - 8 Times
Total number of winning medals at Regional levelis 49 plus 4 at the International level for a total of 55 medals.
Most Improved Chorus - 3 Times
We also competed at the International level winning four medals: Fifth Place Medal in Greenville, SC in 2007, Fourth Place Medal in San Antonio, TX in 2009 and Third Place Medal in Houston, TX in 2011, and Fifth Place Medal in Baltimore, MD in 2014 in the AA Division Small Chorus.
The Spirit of Harmony Chorus began meeting at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spirit Lake in October 1979 with 31 women present. The group was chartered with the Sweet Adelines International organization in May 1980 under the direction of Ken VanderSloot with 31 members. Their first Region 20 competition was in March, 1981 in Iowa City with 34 members on stage. The next year they competed in Ames, IA and won the Most Improved Chorus award, winning 8th Place with 25 members on stage.
